Healthy ChurcheS

A few years ago many of us defined “healthy churches” as congregations in which the members were getting along reasonably well while they worshipped God and learned the Bible. That was a pretty low standard compared to what God is looking for from His churches! In the New Testament, a healthy church is one in which:

  • All attendees are becoming more like Jesus – Ephesians 4:11-16

  • All attendees are furthering the mission of the congregation – Romans 12:3-8

  • All attendees are telling non-Christians about Jesus and His love – Philippians 2:14-18

  • The message and beliefs are remaining the same while the methods being used are changing –
    1 Corinthians 9:19-23

  • Non-Christian children, teens, and adults are becoming devoted followers of Jesus – Matthew 28:18-20

  • Decisions are being made carefully, prayerfully, and decisively – Acts 15:1-35

  • The duly appointed leaders are leading, and the followers are following –
    Acts 6:1-7 & 1 Thessalonians 5:12-15

  • The conflicts which arise are being resolved with honesty and love –
    Acts 6 & 15, Ephesians 4:15-32

  • Spiritual and numerical growth is being experienced –
    Acts 2:42-47, 6:7, 8:4, 9:31, 12:24, & 13:49
